Pr. Osama Mohammed <\/a>\n <\/h3>\n Ph.D., Fellow of National Academy of Inventors, IEEE Fellow, Distinguished Professor & Associate Dean of Research, FIU, USA<\/span>\n

Dr. Osama Mohammed is a Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Associate Dean of Research at the College of Engineering and Computing. He is the Director of the Energy Systems Research Laboratory at Florida International University. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Professor Mohammed joined Florida International University in 1983. Since that time, he became internationally known for his many contributions in the energy field and related areas. He has developed the energy systems educational and research programs at FIU. He has advanced in the academic ranks and became a well thought-after educator and researcher worldwide. At an early stage in his career, in 1994 he became a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). IEEE Fellowship is the highest recognition given by the organization to top engineers who made a significant contribution in their fields. Professor Mohammed is a recognized researcher and a great teacher while bringing a benefit in developing educational programs, building research programs, creating laboratory and supervising significant numbers of undergraduate and graduate students who are well trained and ready to contribute the workforce. One of the most important contributions to FIU made by Professor Mohammed is his pioneering work in the fields of Power Systems, Computational Electromagnetics, power electronics and Energy Cyber Physical Systems. He is one of very few scientists in the nation who had realized the importance of these fields and now we can see it as national strategic initiatives worldwide. Professor Mohammed is one of very few professors who has graduated a significant number of MS and PhD Students who could immediately find highly selective tenure-track faculty positions and in prestigious national universities and major industry. His support to the undergraduate students through internships and laboratory involvement from his research funding is equally impressive. He put FIU on the map in these important science and technology fields and many graduate students worldwide seek his mentorship and advice. Benchmarked against all full professors of engineering in the United States, Dr. Mohammed ranks in the highest percentiles on measures of scholarly productivity, including peer-reviewed papers, grant funding, prestigious awards, and literature citations. His work is frequently cited by others worldwide with an H-index of more than 40 according to Google Scholar and ISI web of science.<\/p> <\/p>\n

This talk will describe how the developed solution can protect the power grid and industrial infrastructure from cyber-attacks and build cybersecurity protection into emerging power grid components and services. This includes microgrid and demand-side management components and protecting the network (substations and productivity lines) and data infrastructure (SCADA) to increase the resilience of the energy delivery systems against cyber-attacks. These developments will also help utility security systems manage large amounts of cybersecurity risk data and cybersecurity operations. Fausto works at UCLM as a\u00a0Full Professor<\/strong>\u00a0(Accredited as Full Professor from 2013), Spain, an\u00a0Honorary Senior Research Fellow at Birmingham University<\/strong>, UK, a\u00a0Lecturer at the Postgraduate European Institute<\/strong>, a Research Fellow at\u00a0INTI International University&Colleges<\/strong>, Malaysia, and has been\u00a0Senior Manager in Accenture<\/strong>\u00a0(2013-2014). He obtained his European PhD with maximum distinction.
